About Us

The mission of Berks Free Medical Clinic (BFMC) is to improve the health of the community by providing free medical care to the uninsured. BFMC first opened its doors in October of 2002 as a community outreach of St. Daniel’s Lutheran Church in Robesonia, PA through the vision of Rev. Wayne Heintzelman. It is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit entity operating within the church’s facilities. Since the clinic’s inception, volunteer doctors and nurses have had over 9,900 patient encounters. In August of 2023, a second clinic was opened at Mary’s Shelter in Reading, PA. This location improves access to 50% of our current patients and for any other individuals who live within or near the city. Our Robesonia location remains available for individuals who find that location and appointment times more convenient. BFMC is free to individuals ages 18 and over who do not have health insurance and cannot afford access to the Health Care System, to treat their health needs. BFMC is not designed to treat acute emergencies. Patients needing emergency treatment should go directly to a hospital setting for assistance.
